University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston Park Hotel has scooped a top spot at the Meetings Industry Association (miaList) Awards.
Edgbaston Park Hotel won the Sales & Marketing Team of the Year award – an accolade which honours teams in the UK’s business meetings and events sector that have made remarkable contributions to their organisations and the industry at large.
Judges recognised the achievements of the on-campus hotel, which was recently named Hotel of the Year at the Midlands Food, Drink and Hospitality Awards.
Over the past 12 months, the hotel’s sales and marketing team has helped to surpass total sales budgets by 25% with a total occupancy growth of seven per cent. They have also grown the hotel’s social media following by over 50%.
They have maintained high customer satisfaction, with a 94% score for enquiry experience and 92% for the event coordination experience. Team retention and engagement has increased, with a 96% retention rate and 94% average engagement survey rate, supported by clear career pathways and hybrid work options.
Other highlights include:
- Demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting the local community with 90% of the team dedicating their time to volunteering last year
- Enhancing employee wellbeing and fostering a supportive culture with 25% of the team trained in mental health first aid and the creation of an internal mental health podcast
- Actively contributing to industry boards and championing sustainability initiatives within the hotel

The hotel’s ambition is to be net zero carbon by 2035, aligning with University of Birmingham’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045. Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre holds a gold ECOsmart award for its commitment to the environment. It’s the second successful milestone reached in the hotel’s quest to be one of Birmingham’s greenest, following a gold standard award for Green Meetings, from Green Tourism.
